Wilderness: Vessel States

The people in the Secretly Canadian/Jagjaguwar family are really solidifying themselves as two of my favorite labels of late. Last last year saw gems from Antony & The Johnsons, Okkervil River, Black Mountain and Jens Lekman, and you guys already know about my love for Pink Mountaintops and I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness this year.

Another one of their bands that put out a solid album last year, was Wilderness. Their debut album garnered them comparisons to bands like Joy Division, The Fall, and Public Image Limited, which really can't be construed as anything but a good thing. The band didn't rest on their laurels though, they got right back to work recording. The product of that Vessel States will be available on April 11th. Here's a track to get you psyched:

Beautiful Alarms (MP3).

I received an advanced copy of "Vessel States". I have to say that this release is even better than their self-title debut.

Track 5, Fever Pitch, is outright hooky and I can't stop listening. The entire album is solid from start to finish.

By the way, I don't know much about this band, but was wondering if you know if their name is based on the Joy Division song "Wilderness"? They have obviously been influenced greatly by Joy Division among others. Great blog. Peace.

Did a search to see who's listening to or writing about this album. I picked it up today and have, in all honesty, listened to it all the way through, six or seven times. Not that that is a hard thing to do...it's a little short. But all I can say is, as much as I was intrigued and blind-sided by their first album, I'm moreso by this one. This one is incredible. I used to live in Arlington, VA and was pleased to see these guys cruised down I95 to record this at Silver Sonya. The production level is up. But the album itself...well, I'm just blown away. I don't see how this won't be on my top 10 list at the end of the year.

Hi.
Anything in the vines about an instrumental for Beautiful Arms?
(Can you spell P-I-X-I-E-S? :)
